Street lighting design calculation

The simple and basic approach for calculating the lighting requirement is to divide the total light requirement of the room by light output (lumen) provided by a single lamp. Although this is the basic approach for an average household room, but it’s not practically accurate. By definition, lighting design according to the illumination method relies on the amount of light flux reaching the pavement and the uniformity of the light on the pavement surface.

The top standard of road lighting design is Rp-8-which is published by IES (American Standard). Many parameters shall be considered in road lighting calculations, this post only provide brief of this calculations by both manual and software methods (the following procedure for software only).

Street lighting optimal design and its optimization is discussed. This street light design manual has been developed by Oakland Public Works, Electrical Services Division for use by private developers, lighting consultants , outside agencies, and City staff to assist in the design and installation of street lights within the Oakland city boundary. Luminous efficacy (En) is Lumen per Watt. Determine what is power consumption of your street light.

The first step in designing a solar street light system is to find out the total power and energy consumption of LED light and other parts that will need to be supplied by solar power, such as WiFi, Camera etc. The light flux reaching the working plane is always less than the lumen output of the lamp since some of the light is absorbed by the various surface textures. The method of calculating the utilization factor (UF) is detailed in lighting design books, although lighting manufacturers’ catalogues give factors for standard conditions.

To provide a reliable comparison, optimal designs for a given representative set of streets were calculated.

Minor Streetlight Panel for Integral Lum. D = Direct distance between the lamp and the point where light level is calculated. H = Distance between the lamp and the point direct below on the workplane. L = Distance between that point and the point where light level is being calculated.

Skip navigation Sign in. Use the light table to find out how many lux or footcandles you need. Calculate the amount of lumens you need.

Multiply the area in square meters by the lux, or the area in square feet by the footcandles. Basic components As shown in Figure 1. I want structural design of foundation of street light and calculation of material. The fastest and most powerful path to successful lighting design. The MIT Design Advisor is a tool which allows you to describe and simulate a building in less than five minutes, including heating, cooling, lighting and daylighting scenarios. Prepare the preliminary design report for present lighting by including the following: 1. The SEAD Street Lighting Tool is a free, easy-to-use calculator that helps municipal officials make more informed procurement choices and alleviate some of the complexity involved in purchasing new street lighting products.

Module 3: Street and Roadway Lighting Design. Distribution Statement No restrictions Roadway lighting , safety, visibility, crash avoidance 19.

Spreadsheet for calculation of fixture number and illuminance level. Combining lighting and energy calculation tools with powerful 3D modeling software, Visual simplifies design and provides comprehensive intelligence and analysis for advanced lighting projects. Visual combines an advanced 3-D interface with the latest advances in radiosity theory to provide efficient and highly accurate analysis of complex architectural spaces. The general Function of Grounding and Bonding in Power Distribution.

The Role of Grounding and Bonding in Street Lighting. The minimum size conduit used shall be ½ “rigid galvanized steel.
