What is welding

Used for Many Diverse Applications Ranging from Pipe Spooling to Large Part Positioning. What skills are good for welding? It can be done using different energy sources, from a gas flame or electric arc to a laser or ultrasound. This technique was discovered during efforts to manipulate iron into useful shapes. Welded blades were developed in the 1st millennium ce, the most famous being those produced by Arab armourers at Damascus, Syria.

It is the only way of joining two or more pieces of metal to make them act as a single piece.

It is used on metals, thermoplastics and sometimes wood. Next, the welder should check the equipment. Have a compentent person condust a thorough inspection of all equipment at least once a month. There are many kinds of welding , including arc welding , resistance welding , and gas welding. The most common type is arc welding. There are several ways to wel but the two most popular ways to weld at home include gas metal arc welding , or MIG welding , and arc welding , otherwise known as stick welding.

During the welding process, an arc is formed between a pointed tungsten electrode and the area to be welded. Slag protects the weld puddle from atmospheric contamination. Also known as manual metal arc welding (MMA or MMAW), flux shielded arc welding or stick welding is a process where the arc is struck between the metal rod (electrode flux coated) and the work piece, both the rod and work piece surface melt to form a weld pool. Tungsten inert gas welding (TIG welding ) is a gas shielded welding process and is one of the fusion welding processes. TIG welding is suitable, among other things, for stainless steels, aluminum and nickel alloys as well for thin sheet metal made of aluminum and stainless steel.

Simultaneous melting of the flux coating on the rod will form gas, and slag, which protects the weld pool from the surrounding atmosphere. MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding requires three things: electricity to produce heat, an electrode to fill the joint, and shielding gas to protect the weld from the air. MIG welders consist of a welding gun with a trigger that controls the feed of a small electrode. The wire is fed from a spool and is accompanied by the protective gas.

This also includes all arc welding processes where shielding gases are used to protect the weld pool from unwanted contact with the oxygen in the ambient air. When it comes to MIG welding , the type of gas needed is primarily based on the type of application and the welding goals you need to accomplish. You need to take into account the cost of the gas, and properties of the base material along with the weld transfer method.

This is because the molten filling metal flows downwards during the welding process, pulled by gravity into the joint cavity. This is pretty simple defect to fix. The first one we discuss is unequal leg length.

Improper leg length is more than likely caused by improper work angle.
