Water pollution pdf

Electrical generating plants can create thermal water pollution when they use surface water to condense steam, which is used to turn turbines, back to the liquid state where water can be used again. When water is heate oxygen and carbon dioxide levels drop. Another source of water pollution is the discharge of hot water from cooling engines in the industries.

This increases water temperature and lowers the metabolic rate of organisms. This then raises their oxygen demand. The effects of pollution are greater in shallow, enclosed or slow flowing streams.

Edited by Richard Helmer and Ivanildo Hespanhol. It affects drinking water , rivers, lakes and oceans all over the world. Water pollution and human health. It consequently harms the health and wellbeing of human life and the natural environment. The resulting water pollution is a serious threat to the well-being of both the Earth and its population.

Factors that contribute to water pollution can be categorized into two different groups. Point sources –Non-point sources. Environment pollution is a wide-reaching problem and it is likely to influence the health of human populations is great.

What are the pros of water pollution?

What helps reduce water pollution? What place has the most water pollution? River pollution has been one of the main topics in the environmental issue of urban Dhaka.

Generation Earth Program. The most of our villages and many townships, ground water is the only source of drinking water. Therefore, pollution of groundwater is a matter of serious concern.

Groundwater gets polluted in a number of ways. The water pollution accounts for the death of nearly 10people per day and in this issue, if we talk about India then it is estimated that every day 5people die due to the illness related to the water pollution. It has been suggested that it is the leading worldwide cause of deaths and diseases, and that it accounts for the deaths of more than 10people daily.

Usually, it means one or more substances have built up in water to such an extent that they cause problems for animals or people. Oceans, lakes, rivers, and other inland waters can naturally clean up a certain amount of pollution by dispersing it harmlessly. Drinking contaminated water is hazardous to human and animal health. When toxic substances dissolve in bodies of water , such as oceans, rivers and lakes, the water becomes polluted. Pollutants tend to lie suspended in the water or deposited on the bed.

They degrade the quality of water over time. The uses of water in rivers, lakes, ponds, and streams is greatly influenced by the quality of water found in them. Pollu-tion can alter one or many important components of a habitat. When that occurs, the health of individual organ-isms, and often the entire community, is at risk.

Requirements for life Let’s look at some important water quality factors, and how they may influence the fish community.

The Dong Nai river basin provides great benefits to Ho Chi Minh City and the surrounding provinces. For example, the irrigation water for rice cultivation is primarily from the river. Because of this slow movement, contaminants tend to remain concentrated in the form of a plume(see Figure 1) that flows along the same path as the ground water. The size and speed of the plume depend on the amount and type of contaminant, its solubility and density, and the velocity of the surrounding ground water.

It has been reported that pollution in China’s overall surface water is rated me-dium. The water quality of groundwater, lakes and reservoirs has deteriorated. Consequently, such a general distribution of water pollution has posed a grave threat to public health in China.

This will prevent the water from getting polluted to a large extent. Plastic: They are very harmful for the water sources. They are non degradable and stay in its original form for a long period of time.

Plastics should not be thrown into the water bodies. They can be harmful for the animals breeding in water.
