Flexible coupling types

ENEMAC Shaft coupling s are designed for the play-free and conformal transfer of torques. What are the different types of flexible working? What is a flexible shaft coupling?

Old-ham coupling usually provides a huge amount of parallel misalignment. The disc coupling is having a thin sheet of discs laminated as the main part. Since universal joints are frequently use and thee r analysis is complex, a separate section is devoted to them following this section.

There are three types of misalignment that flexible couplings address: parallel (also known as offset), angular (up to degrees), and a combination of parallel and angular misalignment. In the most common configuration, flexible couplings have a flange at each en and each flange attaches to the end of a shaft. The cost and the complex construction is the main disadvantage of this coupling. Bush-Pin flexible coupling is one of the most famous type of flexible coupling. In this bushes are used for absorbing the shocks and vibrations.

Material flexing couplings typically do not require lubrication. The jaw coupling is a material flexing coupling that transmits torque thru. The sleeve coupling transmits low to medium torque between connected.

The rubber bushings add a certain amount of flexibility to the coupling which also helps to absorb shocks and vibrations.

Application- Bush pin type couplings are used where there is a little amount of angular, parallel or axial misalignment. When a high amount of torque and speed is of primary concern, this type of coupling is perfect. Other coupling types include meshing tooth, or Hines, designs, pin and bush couplings , and spline couplings. In this application the device is called a gear-type flexible, or flexible coupling.

The single joint allows for minor misalignments such as installation errors and changes in shaft alignment due to operating conditions. For use with splined shafts, which are commonly found in gearboxes and pumps, these couplings are capable of transmitting more torque than couplings for round and keyed shafts. Flexible coupling types include: Sliding block. Metal contoured diaphragm.

Beam or flexured (helical). Coupling Applications and Industries. Metallic Element : obtain flexibility from the flexing of thin metallic discs or. Double Hook’s coupling: 4. A flexible coupling can accommodate a slight misalignment between shafts (up to -degree angular misalignment and mm axial misalignment) but a rigid coupling cannot tolerate any such misalignment.

Examples of rigid coupling muff coupling , clamp coupling , rigid flange coupling etc. Fernco pipe couplings and adapters are used for all types of in-house and sewer connections: drain, waste, vent piping, house-to-main, repairs, cut- ins, conductor, roof drains and increasers-reducers. Manufacturing thousands of different flexible coupling types , Fernco has the right solution for most applications.

Shaft couplings are used for power and torque transmission between two rotating shafts such as on motors and pumps, compressors, and generators.
