Pump pdf

This enables the pump to start dry and re-prime itself without manually adding water. In addition, these pumps can be used when lots of air has to be moved such as with well point dewatering systems. Centrifugal pumps basically consist of a stationary pump casing and an impeller mounted on a rotating shaft.

The pump casing provides a pressure boundary for the pump and contains channels to properly direct the suction and discharge flow. Pump can be classified into three major groups according to the method they use to move the fluid: direct lift, displacement and gravity pump.

Pumps operate by some mechanism (typically reciprocating or rotary), and consume energy to perform mechanical work by moving the fluid. For typical systems, it is around of the total. If it becomes much higher then you should examine the system to see if the pipes are too small.

As the name suggests, it relies on the principal of Centrifugal force. DPump : The shaft toque (the torque that the shaft applies to the rotor) and the rotation of the rotor are in the same direction, energy is transferred from the shaft to the rotor and from the rotor to the fluid. A centrifugal pump is one of the simplest pieces of equipment in any process plant.

Pump head-flow curves are typically given for clear water.

The choice of pump for a given application depends largely on how the pump head-flow characteristics match the requirement of the system downstream of the pump. Pumps and Pumping System Bureau of Energy Efficiency 1Figure 6. A pump is a device used to move fluids, such as liquids, gases or slurries. A pump displaces a volume by physical or mechanical action.

Pumps fall into three major groups: direct lift, displacement, and gravity pumps. Such pumps are used in conjunction with photovoltaic and wind-electric systems. The efficiency of centrifugal pumps varies strongly with the output rate for a given head. The inlet guides the fluid to the impeller eye.

The design of the inlet depends on the pump type. The four most com- mon types of inlets are inline, endsuction, doublesuction and inlet for submersible pumps, see figure 1. Inline pumps are constructed to be mounted on a straight pipe – hence the name inline. The static head is created by any vertical columns of liquid attached to the pump and any pressurized systems attached to the pump outlet. The static head exists under static conditions, with the pump switched off, and does not change based on flow.

The presence of free gas may considerably decrease the required discharge pressure, hence there may be a need to use a gas separator at the pump intake to achieve maximum system efficiency. The pump size must conform to the flow rate, pressure, spee suction conditons etc. As a manufacturer and supplier of centrifugal pumps and positive displacement pumps we offer the optimum for both applications.

Generally spoken, the pump is a device that conveys a certain volume of a specific liquid from point A to point B within a unit of time. Hydraulic Ram Pumps Livestock watering systems are used to aid in getting better animal distribution within a range unit or pasture. Many of these systems use springs and gravity or wells and pumps to get water into troughs.

Creeks and streams and ponds are often used where they are located to provide water on site. Pumps are in general classified as Centrifugal Pumps (or Roto-dynamic pumps) and Positive Displacement Pumps. Centrifugal Pumps (Roto-dynamic pumps) The centrifugal or roto-dynamic pump produce a head and a flow by increasing the velocity of the liquid through the machine with the help of the rotating vane impeller.
