What are the principles of continuous improvement? What is continuous improvement and why is it important? To address these questions, a practice needs structured clinical and administrative data. It is an ongoing process that evaluates how an organization works and ways to improve its processes.

The purpose of continuous quality improvement programs is to improve health care by identifying problems, implementing and monitoring corrective action and studying its effectiveness.


Continuous improvement , sometimes called continual improvement , is the ongoing improvement of products, services or processes through incremental and breakthrough improvements. These efforts can seek incremental improvement over time or breakthrough improvement all at once.

In general, this term refers to technology such as outcomes management software. This term can also involve statistical tools which are used to analyze data, as well as any tools required in the data collection process. A continuous quality improvement program (standard A-06) is essential as you make changes in your system.

However, you may already have some of the elements of a CQI program in place, but you may not be thinking of them as CQI. This process leads to systematic analysis of organization for decision making process based on the facts and organization activity.
