Gas welding procedure

Procedure of gas welding. Other names for gas welding are oxyacetylene welding and oxy welding. Welding can be performed by pointing the torch flame in the direction that the weld is progressing. This is referred to as forehand welding , and is the most commonly used method for lighter tubing and sheet metal. The filler rod is kept ahead of the tip in the direction the weld is going and is added to the puddle.

WELDING PROCESSES AND TECHNIQUES 11-1.

Oxyfuel gas welding (OEW) is a group of welding processes which join metals by heating with a fuel gas flame or flares with or without the application of pressure and with or without the use of filler metal. You first need to tack weld the two pipes together to hold them in place when welding. Then, you can apply butt welding techniques to create the main weld.

If you do not have experience with pipe welding , consider consulting a. This gas mixture also provides the highest flame temperature of available fuel gases , however acetylene is generally the most expensive of all fuel gases. Acetylene is an unstable gas and requires specific handling and storage procedures. The most commonly used method is Oxyacetylene welding , due to its high flame temperature.

Poor welding procedure control can result in incomplete fusion.

Cold lap and cold shut are additional terms that serve to describe incomplete fusion defects. Poor procedure control can result in excessive spatter, and will increase weldment cleanup cost. Oxy-fuel welding (commonly called oxyacetylene welding , oxy welding , or gas welding in the U.S.) and oxy-fuel cutting are processes that use fuel gases (or liquid fuels such as gasoline) and oxygen to weld or cut metals. A welding procedure specification (WPS) is a written document providing direction to the welder (or welding operator).

It contains all the necessary parameters viz. Equipments for Gas -Cutting: The equipments used for Gas -cutting is similar to that of gas - welding except that the welding torch is replaced by a special designed cutting torch. These equipments are listed below: 1. The heat required for heating and melting the parent and filler metal is obtained by the combustion of a fuel gas with oxygen. Gas welding is a fusion process in which fusion is obtained by completely melting the joint.

Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding uses the heat generated by an electric arc struck between a non-consumable tungsten electrode and the workpiece to fuse metal in the joint area and produce a molten weld pool. The arc area is shrouded in an inert or reducing gas shield to protect the weld pool and the non-consumable electrode. Natural Gas and Propane installation code includes a welding requirement for joints in piping systems downstream of a gas company’s meter: 6. Welding of gas piping shall be performed in accordance with a procedure and by an operator registered under the applicable provincial or territorial legislation. All welding procedures must be qualified and welding must be controlled to strict specifications. As part of the quality-assurance process, each welder must pass qualification tests to work on a particular pipeline job, and each weld procedure must be approved for use on that job in accordance with welding standards.

The purpose of the document is to guide welders to the accepted procedures so that repeatable and trusted. Shop gas cylinder safety equipment. Comply 1 to safety standards.
