Med desalination process description

It consists of multiple stages or effects. In each stage the feed water is heated by steam in tubes, usually by spraying saline water onto them. Each cell (also called effect) contains a horizontal tube bundle. The pressure applied is high enough to overcome the osmotic pressure of the dissolved salt in feed solution.

A desalination plant turns salt water (brackish or seawater) into fresh water (potable or distillate water).

Desalination is the removal of dissolved salts and other impurities from salt water. MED units utilize the advanced technologies and know-how developed by iDE to achieve exceptional thermal efficiency and reliability. MED desalination process , implemented within the CAMEL-Pro TM Process Simulator, is. TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF DESALINATION PLANT 7. Typical stage arrangement of a large MSF plant The concept of thermo compression If reduced pressure causes evaporation at a lower temperature, then compression should force condensation at a higher temperature.

Distillation is the oldest and most commonly used method of desalination. The combination of these phenomena can yield useful (and efficient) desalination process. Saline water is classified as either brackish water or seawater depending on the salinity and water source.

Most of the existing desalination plants use this method. In an MSF distillation sea water vaporisation takes place at low temperatures in vacuum. There are varying degrees of salinity in water, which affects the difficulty and expense of treatment, and the level of saline is typically measured in parts per million (ppm). Water desalination processes separate dissolved salts and other minerals from water.

Feedwater sources may include brackish, seawater, wells, surface (rivers and streams), wastewater, and industrial feed and process waters. The current worldwide market share of the thermal desalination processes is about while of RO membrane technology, Fig. The membrane systems have succeeded in grabbing a larger share of the world seawater desalination market, as a result of the progress made in membrane characteristic, energy recovery devices, and therefore attained the lowest specific product water cost. The multistage-flash (MSF), MED , and vapor-compression (VC) processes have led to the widespread use of distillation to desalinate seawater.

DESCRIPTION MED -TVC seawater desalination plant produces distilled water directly from seawater. This evaporative process has effects which are housed in a horizontal cylindrical vessel. The complete description of the developed MED thermodynamic model is provided in. The core process of desalination is the Reverse Osmosis Process.

This paper is trying to use Aspen Plus software to simulate the MSF desalination process and analyze the effects of the operating parameters to the MSF desalination system. At the same time, the method of reducing energy consumption is provided as reference to the design of MSF system. The report begins with an overview and description of desalination process technologies, ones that are presently available as well as some that are expected to be available in the near future.

The focus of the discussion is on relevance for application in rural and remote areas.

Batch process description and model. This is summarized in Table on 0. It is a simplified version of a single stage of the above-mentioned MED.
