This standard contains minimum requirements for total flooding and local application clean agent fire extinguishing systems. It does not cover fire extinguishing systems that use carbon dioxide or water as the primary extinguishing media, which are addressed by other NFPA documents. NFPA publishes more than 3consensus codes and standards intended to minimize the possibility and effects of fire and other risks.
NFPA codes and standards, administered by more than 2Technical Committees comprising approximately 0volunteers, are adopted and used throughout the world. The system shall be total flooding FM-2extinguishing system designed to provide a uniform concentration of , at normal average ambient temperature, minimum of FM-200.
The amount of FM-2to be provided shall be the amount required to obtain and hold the minimum uniform concentration for ten (10) minutes. That selection is based on a risk assessment of the rooms to be protected. The FM2discharge strobe is a dedicated appliance and shall not be connected to the main bldg fire alarm system.
I have a room protected by FM2, since this is a clean agent and not harmful to the health is it really need to provide ventilation after the discharge, because we are mandate to provide ventilation and compute for the time needed to exhaust the discharge agent. The FM-2Fire Suppression System is an engineered system utilizing a fixed nozzle agent distribution network. Operating Alarms and Indicators. Alarms or indicators or both shall be used to indicate the operation of the system, hazards to personnel, or failure of any supervised device.
After receiving the fire signal, FM 2is discharged totally from the cylinders within seconds to fill up the space uniformly at the design concentration to extinguish the fire.
Maniac makes a valid point that the FM-2system is listed as a stand alone system, however it is not listed as a substitute for a NFPA system. I would have a hard time allowing a sprinkler system in lieu of 1-hr fire resistive construction when the entire building is not covered to the same standard. FM-2Typical Sigma System Components GENERAL INFORMATION AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS 1. GENERAL The Chemetron Sigma series systems are automatic fire s uppression systems. Use extinguishing agent appropriate to other materials involved.
Containers may explode in heat of fire. On the larger size tanks, an optional liquid level indicator is available. Agent – FM-2(HFC-227ea) is a clean, gaseous agent containing no particles or oily residues. NFPA members and public sector officials may submit a question on an NFPA code or standard. Responses are provided by NFPA staff on an informal basis.
Coordination with NFPA 72. Other than the ventilation systems identified in 5. See the following requirement from Section 5. National Electrical Code. After an FM-2system discharge, the FM-2cylinder(s) should be returned to an authorized Chemetron filling location for recharge.
Depending on the volume of the enclosure, a COsystem can consume a large amount of space, especially if high-pressure COcylinders are used.
FM-2system will require less space since the agent is more effective at controlling an incipient fire. When used at standard design concentrations, it is safe for occupied spaces. FM - 2is a clean agent fire suppression system designed specifically to protect sensitive electronic equipment.
FM - 2suppresses fires fast using a combination of chemical and physical mechanisms. It discharges gas (3-Heptafluoropropane) directly onto the surface of combustible materials.
