Islamic architecture history

What are some Islamic achievements in architecture? What is the history of Islamic art? It encompasses both secular and religious styles from the early history of Islam to the present day.


Islamic architecture , building traditions of Muslim populations of the Middle East and elsewhere from the 7th century on. History as a Distinct Style. More specifically, the architectural forms and styles came largely from the Byzantine and Sassanian Empires.

Muslim is a general word referring to religious and geographical setting of Islam. The architectural style of the Islamic Empire spread throughout the Middle East, Northern Africa, Spain, and parts of Asia during the Middle Ages. Many of the elements were inspired by the Islamic religion.

The word Islamic identifies art and architecture created for people of Muslim faith. Islam as a religion began around 6CE in what is today Saudi Arabia. Islam and the history of Arabic calligraphy is apparent from the fact that calligraphy was and continues to be the principal art form of Islam, similar to cathedrals and icons in Christianity. The Great Mosque of Xian, China, is one of the oldest and best preserved mosques in China.


Islam originated in the remote areas of the Arabian desserts,. An Islamic style is seen in mosques but also in Muslim houses and gardens. Even later in history , when a Dar al- Islam did coalesce, few Muslim jurists commented on a common prescription for the layout of all mosques.


In the 18th and 19th centuries, a new cultural field of inquiry had emerged alongside the Exoticism and Orientalism movements in European art. Mosque history : An Islamic mosque is a building where people pray to God. Medieval mosques usually had a courtyar a prayer room, a mihrab, and a minaret. By the late 9th century, grids of circles were introduced in the Ibn-Tulun Mosque.
