Directional control valve symbols

What is the function of directional control valve? What valve is classified as an one way directional valve? The directional control valve symbol is the most intuitive and selfexplanatory of the symbols.

Some experience with the directional control valve symbol has already been gained. At this point, it is necessary to review the three most common center configurations (Fig. ) for spool-type directional control valves. The valves shown are all two way, two position directional valves.

This means they have two flow pipe connections and can switch into two different positions. The double arrow in the left box shows that the flow may pass in both directions. Hydraulic Directional Valve Symbols Introduction: The spool mounted in the directional valves common known as sliding type often consists of lands as well as grooves. Most of the lands often block oil flow that flow through the body of the valve. The grooves also allow gas or oil to flow around the given spool at the same time through valve body.

Following are schematic symbols for commonly used directional control valves. A 2-way directional valve has two ports normally called inlet and outlet. When the inlet is blocked in the at-rest condition, as shown in Figure 8- it is referred to as normally closed (NC).

Schemes of directional valves The description of directional valves is standardized by DIN ISO 121. The ISO symbols display only the function of the valves. They do not give any further information about the design, flow, orifice size, etc. Basics of the ISO symbols : Each position the valve can take is represented by a square.

Cross-sectional views and symbols for two types of check valves. However, check valves do allow flow in one direction and block flow the opposite direction. Pneumatic circuit symbols representing these valves provide detailed information about the valve they represent. Symbols show the methods of actuation, the number of positions, the flow paths and the number of ports.

Here is a brief breakdown of how to read a symbol. Instead of pictures, symbols are used for variety of components in the hydraulic system to highlight the functional aspects. The symbol for directional control valve is made of number of square boxes adjacent to each other depending on the number of positions. Arrows specify the direction of flow, in this case in one direction, if a line has an arrow at each end then the flow is bi- directional or flow in both directions.

Operation Hydraulic symbols Directional valves type KV with direct mechanical operation by means of a lever control the direction of the hydraulic fluid medium flow. These valves are typically referred to as Òcheck valvesÓ because they ÒcheckÓ the flow if it tries to reverse. The symbols above are all of a directional control cartridge poppet valve.

They typically incorporate international standard mounting and fluid flow patterns. This allows one valve sub-plate to serve as the mounting platform for any of these valves.
