Spiral wound gasket specification

What are the benefits of spiral wound gaskets? How thick is a spiral wound gasket? How does a spiral wound gasket work? Why do we use spiral wound gasket in flanged joints?

The engineered shape of the metal strip acts as a spring under loa resulting in a very resilient seal under varying conditions.

Spiral wound gaskets are fabricated from thin metal strip sandwiched between layers of non-metallic filler. SWG has alternative spiral layers of thin metal sheet and filler material as shown in the image. Here in the cross section, the blue layers are of metal, and the black layers are of filler material. Style CG spiral wound gaskets utilize an external ring which accurately centers the gasket on flange faces, and provides radial strength to prevent gasket blowout as well as a compression stop. Basic type spiral wound gasket consists of a thin metallic strip and soft non-metallic filler that are simultaneously wound on a rotating mandrel.

The usual nominal thickness of spiral wound gaskets are between mm and mm. View the spiral wound gasket torque values for flanges that have limited bolt load. Please contact us for all queries on spiral wound gasket torque values.

The spiral wound element of a GT-Zone gasket consists of outer windings of non-asbestos or ceramic material with a central winding zone made of graphite or PTFE (depending on the oper- ating conditions) to improve gas tightness. It is created by winding alternating strips of metal and filler material. Outer guide ring is fitted to centralise the gasket between the bolts and to act as a compression limiter.

Spiral Wound Gasket is composed of a steel outer ring, a spiral wound sealing strip filler and a special steel inner ring. Style RIR spiral wound gaskets are designed to prevent accumulation of solids, reduce turbulent flow of process fluids and minimize erosion of flange faces. The inner ring provides a positive stop preventing the gasket from over compression and possible damages. The gasket features a solid metal inner ring nominally 0. Flexseal Industrial is a full line gasket and o-ring distributor. General notes: Dimensions are in millimeters unless otherwise indicated.

The metal strip provides outstanding recovery, while the flexible filler guarantees excellent sealing. Excellent performance in joints restricting compression is provided since their resiliency will compensate for modest separation. Our graphite filled spiral wound gaskets come standard with high grade APXgraphite.

We can competitively source any type of metal gasket your application requires. Series A (MSS SP-44) dimensions and tolerances in accordance with ASME B16.

Series B (API Std 605) dimensions and tolerances in accordance with ASME B16. Gasket material is a flat sheet that can be cut prior to assembly or is already die-cut. Gasket sheets are frequently rolled when purchase in long lengths.

They may include a centering ring, an inner ring, or both. Custom filler, winding strip, guide ring and inner ring materials are available upon request. NOTE: This is a general guide only and Gasket Resources Inc. Torque Values are in ft.
