Rotary positive displacement pump can be classified into two main types : Gear pumps - a simple type of rotary pump where the liquid is pushed between two gears. Rotary vane pumps - similar to scroll compressors, these pump have a cylindrical rotor encased in a similar shaped housing. The first type of pump is the centrifugaldesign. This type uses a rotating impeller to draw water into the pump and pressurize the discharge flow. Common rental pumps include standar trash and submersible models.
The second type of pump is the positive displacement design, the most common of which is the diaphragm type.
Different Types of Impeller. Semi-Open Impeller : The vanes are free on one side and enclosed on the other. Enclosed Impeller : The vanes are located between the two discs, all in a single casting. Centrifugal pumps are the most common type of pumps found in DOE facilities. STATE the purposes of the following centrifugal pump components: a. Internal and external gear pumps are the two basic types of gear pumps.
The main differences between the two types of gear pumps are the placement of the gears and where the fluid is trapped. In the previous article we learned about the various characteristics, main parts and special features of the rotary pumps.
In this article we will learn about the working of various types of rotary pumps , i. We will also learn how is the working of screw pump different from that of other types of pumps. Screw pumps are a special type of rotary positive displacement pump in which the flow through the pumping elements is truly axial. Screw pumps are high-volume, non-clog, atmospheric -head devices that can pump a variety of solids and debris in raw waste water without screening. MECHANICAL ENGINEERING – Types and Performance of Pumps and Compressors – Essam E. MECHANICAL PUMPS In mechanical pumps , the gas present in a vacuum system is transferred from a low pressure to a higher pressure region. In order to be efficient, the pump has to provide simultaneously a finite pumping speed and compression.
Since pumps and motors are similar in many cases, just one shall be discussed. Impellers for high- head or pressure will have more blades of narrow width and may be enclosed on both sides of the blades. There are three types of rotodynamic pumps. DIAPHRAGM PUMPS A diaphragm pump is a plunger-type of pump, similar in operation to the fuel pump in your car. It has a diaphragm (fig.
1) attached to a plunger (fig. 2) – which moves up and down. Figure 5: Typical centrifugal pump impeller (left) and volute (right). Figure 6: Typical centrifugal pump vaned diffuser. The flow exits the impeller and proceeds through the vaned diffuser before entering the volute.
ITT Goulds Pumps makes the widest range of pumps in the industry — pumps to handle virtually any service. This selection chart is designed to help you find and specify the best pump for your service.
These types pumps used for the application of sewage, sludge, scum, clarifier thickener underflow. It can be applied for transfer and for metering service. Such pumps are available in single- and multi cylinder models. PumP classification Hydrodynamic (or) non-positive displacement pumps Hydrostatic (or) positive displacement pumps.
Generally used for low pressure, high-volume, flow applications.
