Reverse alignment method

This course begins with the fundamental principles behind shaft to shaft alignment and concludes with students conducting a series of alignment exercises using conventional alignment tools. Two methods will be covered: straight edge alignment , and reverse dial (cross-dialing) alignment. A rough alignment is necessary due to the range limitations of the dial indicators. A popular method used for years and is still in use today is the rim and face method.

The two most common dial indicator alignment methods are the rim-face and reverse rim dial methods. In this method two dial indicator ( rim and face dial ) are used to determine the relative position of movable shaft with respect to stationary shaft. Another measurement is taken on the face of the coupling to determine shaft angularity.


When using a reverse dial method , two measurements are taken on the rims of the couplings to determine shaft offset at two points. Prueftechnik are specialists in the alignment and monitoring of rotating. This method often requires the machines to be uncoupled to perform alignment.
