Multi effect distillation

It consists of multiple stages or effects. In each stage the feed water is heated by steam in tubes, usually by spraying saline water onto them. Some of the water evaporates, and this steam flows into the tubes of the next stage, heating and evaporating more water.

What is multiple effect distillation (med)? What are the most efficient methods of distillation?

Why is desalination so expensive? The multiple effect distillation process uses a steam heat source and a series of evaporators at successively lower pressures to create water. The reverse osmosis process uses membranes to separate the pure water from the brine.

This process requires pumping the salt water from…. Condensation is achieved by means of the thin-falling film technology. MECO multiple effect distillers are designed to produce Water for Injection (WFI) in accordance with all recognized international pharmacopoeias.

All Orders Ship Within 48Hrs.

The design is largely determined by the characteristic properties of the feed and the specific requirements of the final product. Each cell (also called effect ) contains a horizontal tube bundle. Vacuum enables operation at unparalleled low distillation temperatures (below °C) minimizing scale and corrosion, and hence maintenance, to an absolute minimum.

Each unit contains a number of boiling columns (or effects) with the first column producing pure steam, which is condensed and re-distilled in the following columns, decreasing the operational costs. Plant steam is applied only to the first column evaporator (effect) with the subsequent columns using the steam produced in the previous column as the source of energy. Water dwell time in this process is too short, and the temperature too low.

If the rate of the distillation through column is too rapid flooding occurs will effect on distillation rate causing low crude column flush zone vaporization that causes low internal reflux rate between GO and GO product and the light materials does not vaporize and it will effect on fractionation ability. The heating for evaporation and cooling for condensation processes are performed by double tube sheet (DTS) exchangers. The multi - effect distillation (MED) process is the oldest process in desalination. Most of the existing desalination plants use this method. This is a proven method and has been in service for the last three decades.

In an MSF distillation sea water vaporisation takes place at low temperatures in vacuum. A wide variety of multiple effect distillation options are available to you, such as vacuum distillation , rotary, and wiped film. This can eliminate having to raise the unit or condenser and does not require an additional pump in the system.

It distills water by boiling it under vacuum, then condensing the pure water vapour.

It uses multiple shell and tube heat exchangers, called cells or effects. Paul Mueller Company Pyropure multiple effect stills (MES) are the simplest, most reliable means of producing pyrogen-free water-for-injection (WFI) that meets all the U. Pharmacopoeia (USP) requirements. Our multiple effect stills have a simple, robust design that minimizes moving parts. Reverse electrodialysis (RED) heat engine is a novel technology to convert low grade heat into electricity. Through combining the multi - effect distillation (MED) with RE the so-called MED-RED heat engine has received increasing attention over the recent years.

Cool RO Reject and Feed to be used as a cooling source for heat reject section of distillation plants. The blend of reject stream from RO with warm seawater and blowdown from distillation or power plants reduces heavy density plume of RO outfall. Blend of RO permeate reduces temperature of distillate. The gain output ratio of the system was increased more than than seven- effect multi - effect distillation thermal vapor compression desalination process published in former literature.

Almost all pharmaceutical distillation -based systems implement either multiple effect or vapor compression stills. Distillation - Based WFI Systems. Both still types employ various techniques for recovery of latent and sensible heat to minimize energy consumption.

Both technologies produce WFI quality water when properly implemented and operated.
